Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is a Furry?

Generally speaking, Furries are people who are fans of anthropomorphic animals - that is, animals who have human characteristics. If you are fascinated by the world of Disney’s “Zootopia”, someone who loves all of those “Looney Tunes” characters or are entranced by snarly werewolves, you may find a home in the Furry Fandom. Most members of the Furry community have a unique character that represents them to others. This is commonly known as a “fursona”.

  2. What is Calfurry?

Calfurry is a new Furry convention to be held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is planned as an annual gathering of members of the Furry community from places near and far, who come together to celebrate everything this diverse community entails. Check out marquee events like our Dance Competition or enjoy musical performances by some of our entertainers. Shop in our Marketplace or dance the night away during our nightly dance. Community members also hold panels and workshops during this three-day event where there’s something for everyone!

  3. Do I need a fursuit to attend Calfurry?

It is not at all required. Fursuits (full or partial) are a luxury that only about twenty to thirty percent of members of the Furry community have. Most Guests at Furry conventions do not have a fursuit and you should not feel any pressure to have one to attend.

  4. My child wants to attend Calfurry. Is it suitable for kids?

We welcome Furries that are under the age of 18 to attend and to enjoy the vast majority of our programming and events when accompanied by a legal parent or Guardian. (Those aged 16 or 17 may attend without the accompaniment of an adult provided they have signed permission from their legal parent or guardian.) Like many Furry conventions, Calfurry is generally suitable for an “all ages” audience.
For some programming, parental guidance is recommended. Furthermore, some programming and events are restricted to those who are 18 years of age or older. A comprehensive guide to our programming and suitability for minors will be available online once our programming schedule is released.
Please note that after 10pm on the Friday and Saturday night of the convention, most convention spaces (including the dance) will be only accessible to those who are 18 years of age or older.

  5. Am I permitted to take photos and/or video at Calfurry?

We encourage Guests to take as many photos and as much video as they wish at Calfurry provided that it is for personal (non-commercial) use. There are some areas of the convention where photography/videography is prohibited (eg: Fursuit Lounge). As a courtesy, you should always ask anyone if you wish to take their photo or include them in a video whether they are in costume or not. REMEMBER: COSTUMES DO NOT EQUAL CONSENT!

  6. Do I have to stay in the hotel to attend Calfurry?

We highly encourage those that are attending Calfurry to plan ahead and to not drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs by staying on site at our hotel venue. You may also find it more convenient to have a hotel room if you are planning on fursuiting as there are no public change facilities on site and you will not be permitted to leave your personal belongings in any convention space. Having a hotel room is ultimately not required, however, to attend Calfurry.

  7. How can I get involved with Calfurry?

Everyone that helps to organize and to operate Calfurry is a volunteer, and you can be, too! We encourage those who are interested to consider joining our team as a general Volunteer or as a Staff member. Go to our Staff and Volunteer page to learn more about how you can help Calfurry!
