  • Content Guidelines: Performances must adhere to the event’s content standards, which prohibit inappropriate, offensive, or discriminatory material.
  • Right to Record: The organizers reserve the right to record and broadcast performances (audio, video, and photos) for promotional purposes without compensation to participants.
  • Non-Transferable Participation: Contestants may not transfer or assign their participation to another person. Only the registered contestant may perform.
  • Judging Criteria: Performances will be judged based on a point system and tally and the decision of the judges is final.

  • Disqualification and Cancellation: Organizers reserve the right to disqualify participants for failure to comply with the terms, rules, or for any other reason that disrupts the event or its fair operation.

Dance Comp Format

  • Competitors will dance to a mix of their choosing. There will be no music provided for them, and it is on the competitors to ensure their files play back appropriately prior to submission.
  • Mixes should be a maximum of 2:00 for individual performances, and a maximum of 3:00 for group performances, with some room for songs that tail / fade out. Songs that exceed these lengths will be faded out by the A/V team. Mixes can be submitted via the application form below BEFORE the event. If needed, USB copies can be managed, if submitted the morning of the event.
  • Songs must be radio-friendly / PG-13. Any swearing or excessively vulgar language must be removed. Submissions will be reviewed prior to acceptance.
  • File formatting must be .wav or .mp3 , with the name of the file as:
    [performername]_Calfurry2025DanceComp.mp3.
    For example:
    JezzaBat_Calfurry2025DanceComp.mp3
  • Auditions will take place both remotely via video submission prior to the event, as well as in-person at the event. Auditions should comprise the competitors’ entire choreography, in the attire they intend to wear at the competition. Remote auditions must be submitted before 9am MST on May 11th. There will be NO exceptions to this rule - if you miss the deadline, you can audition in person. Time and date for in-person auditions to be announced.
  • Fursuits and fursuit parts are highly encouraged. At minimum, performers should be wearing fursuit paws or happy feet / slipper equivalent, paws, tail, and head. Exceptions can be made with notice for performances that require alternate footwear (ie; tap shoes or heels) or otherwise unique costume parts. Exceptions for certain fursuit parts should be requested prior to the event.
  • Choreography must be original, created by the dancer. There will be no tolerance for plagiarism / theft of pre-existing choreography. Examples of plagiarism include professional choreography, choreo from past fursuit dance competitions (except for your own), TikTok / social media choreography, etc. Any proof received that dances have been stolen will revoke any awards given to that competitor, and a potential for banning that competitor from future dance events if appropriate.
  • Props may be used, provided they are PG and will not be a risk to the performer, or any other performers. They must also be able to be picked up and carried off-stage after the performance (ie; no glitter or confetti, please).
  • Assistance with simple music edits can be provided if music is submitted before May 1. JezzaBat can provide simple edits to songs to cut them down to the required times. This does not include mixing multiple songs together nor will it include significant edits. Jezza can also help remove inappropriate language provided it is not excessive.

Dance Comp Judging

There will be a panel of three judges for this event, and they will be provided a scoring rubric for this competition. An example of what the judges will be looking for is as follows:

  • Execution and Technique: Was the performance clean, polished and practiced? Was there a good variety of movement? Did you use the floor well and incorporate levels into your routine? How complex was your choreography?
  • Originality: How unique was your choreography? Did you put your own spin into it? Did you incorporate your character into the routine?
  • Musicality: Did your choreography and energy match your chosen music? Did you tell the story the lyrics / instrumentation provided?
No preference will be present for fullsuiters over partial fursuits and NO points will be added by default due to wearing more complex costumes.

NOTES

  • Songs must be appropriate and may not contain profanity.
  • All songs are subject to approval.
  • Songs will need to be high quality and are limited to 2 minutes (3 minutes for group performances)
  • Songs may be provided in person via USB but must be confirmed working by the participant and provided at least 24 hours prior to the competition.
